Volunteer in Bulgaria
Whether it’s part of your gap year, a career break, annual leave or during your retirement, you can volunteer to help young children in a Bulgarian institution at any time of year. You can be a trained professional or totally new to the field. All we ask is that you are over 18 years of age, have enthusiasm and a dedicated approach to the work and the children you are there to help.
Our volunteer programme focuses on the Baby Institution in the northern district of Pleven. With over 200 children, the baby institution in Pleven is one of the largest in the country. The children are aged from one day to twelve years and some are disabled and developmentally delayed.
Volunteers will help the staff at the institution with some of the basic care work including washing, changing and feeding as well as organising play sessions, walks and some much needed fun. There are opportunities to work with a range of age groups; you can help look after the babies as well as more active work with the toddlers and older children. The children are desperate for attention and you will probably need plenty of stamina to keep up with them!
You can volunteer from two weeks to six months and places are available throughout 2011 and 2012.

You do not need qualifications or previous experience to join a volunteer programme, we believe all volunteers have something to contribute. But you do need to be ready for a challenge. Many of the children will have health or behavioural problems, or may require extra attention due to mental or physical disabilities.
Just picking the children up and giving them some much needed one to one attention can make a significant difference to their development.
