VOLUNTEERING WITH TBACT - WHAT'S INVOLVED?

Volunteers are key to our work in providing one-to-one care for many of the children we aim to help. Our work could not continue without the many dedicated volunteers we are lucky enough to work with. Many of our volunteers return to Bulgaria several times a year and become team leaders to guide and support new volunteers and help them along their journey.

Volunteers work as child care assistants in an institution for babies and young children. The role requires common sense and lots of enthusiasm to work with the children in a group and on a one to one basis. You may be required to carry out tasks of personal care such as bathing, dressing and feeding as well as organising play activities and taking the children out for walks.

Whilst it may be demanding and at times tiring, we hope you will also find it extremely rewarding and enjoyable.

Each team consists of 4-6 volunteers with an experienced Team Leader as part of the group. The Team Leader will have an agreed work schedule which will outline the children you will be working with on a daily basis. The typical working hours are: 9am -12noon and 3pm - 6pm Monday-Friday and 9am - noon on Saturday. Sunday is a day to relax or explore the country.

You do not need qualifications or previous experience to join a volunteer programme, we believe all volunteers have something to contribute. But you do need to be ready for a challenge. Many of the children will have health or behavioural problems, or may require extra attention due to mental or physical disabilities.
